🇰🇷 한국어
“What do you think?”
In a world of easy answers, we want to give our kids space to develop ideas of their own.
Technology is making it increasingly easy to generate words, images and answers. We believe there is something deeply valuable in giving children the time and space to think, question, form their own opinions, and find the words to express them.
A six-week hybrid program
for 8-11 Year Olds
THINK
1 hour online
With a philosopher from the UK
In the online session, the children will make philosophical inquiries through a live discussion led by a trained philosopher from The Philosophy Foundation in the UK.
WRITE
2 hours in person
Creative writing through adventure
In the guided in-person session, the children will take inspiration from The Odyssey and create their own stories and imagined worlds with a Pilco writing coach.
Why The Odyssey?
For thousands of years, The Odyssey has given readers stories about monsters, journeys, temptation, friendship, courage and home.
But beneath it all are questions that are still relevant today.
What makes us who we are?
What makes a good life?
Are we really free to choose?
How should we make difficult decisions?
Can we change our future?
What makes somewhere home?
What will my child develop?

This includes:
6 live online Philosophy Discussion sessions with The Philosophy Foundation in the UK

-
Absolutely. No previous experience with philosophy is needed. The sessions are designed around questions that children can approach from their own experiences and ideas.
-
The children will be listening, discussing and writing in English, so they should be comfortable following an extended conversation in English and expressing their ideas in complete sentences. They do not need advanced academic English.
-
No. We will introduce selected stories and ideas from The Odyssey throughout the programme.
-
Children are not expected to have an answer immediately or speak every time. Listening is an important part of philosophical discussion too. The goal for introverted children is for them to gradually become comfortable sharing, questioning and responding to ideas.
-
No. Children will develop their writing throughout the programme with guidance from a Pilco writing coach. What matters most is a willingness to imagine, experiment with ideas and put those ideas into words.
-
The two parts of the programme have different purposes. The online session gives children the opportunity to participate in a live philosophy discussion with The Philosophy Foundation in the UK. The in-person session gives them time to develop those ideas through creative writing with a Pilco writing coach.
-
Because each week builds on the previous one, we encourage children to attend all six weeks. If your child needs to miss a session, we will provide the key materials and writing prompts from that week so they can stay connected to the story.
-
The in-person creative writing workshops are small-group set ups with a 1:6 teacher-to-child ratio. This gives each child time for individual guidance, discussion and feedback on their writing.
The online philosophy discussion can include up to 15 children, allowing a lively group conversation where children can encounter a range of different perspectives.
-
Yes. The online philosophy discussion is shared between the Jeju and Seoul groups. For the in-person creative writing workshop, you can choose the location that works best for your family.
